Tim Davies

Tim was born in England in 1959. He moved to London in 1979 to study at Camberwell School of Art, graduating in 1982 with a BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Arts.

He was awarded a post-graduate degree in Fine Art Printmaking at Central St. Martins School of art in 1985. In 1985 he was commissioned to create a painting for the cover of Robert Plant's C.D. "Shaken 'n' Stirred."

In 1988 his work was used in the cover artwork for Pink Floyd's single "One Slip" from the C.D. "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" on which he worked as Production Illustrator.

Throughout the late 1980's and into the 1990's Tim worked with interior designers and architects, creating murals for many restaurants, bars and clubs in London.

In 1990 he started working with acrylic paints, creating large works on canvas. and in 1994 he began exhibiting these paintings, mostly in bars and clubs in London.

In 1993 Tim worked with film director Pete Bishop and Passion Pictures in London to create a programme title sequence "Awake on the Wild Side" for MTV Asia, using model and 2D animation techniques. This 25 second sequence won an award in 1994 at the New York Festival for Television and Video for "The Best Title Sequence and Station Indent."

Tim has participated in many group exhibitions, particularly "England's Dreaming" - Tokyo - 1995, "Artists for Animals" - Serpentine Gallery - London - 1996, "Europa, besteige den Steir!" - Bad Salzdetfurth - Germany - 1998, "Helvetica 2000" - Bern & Zurich - Switzerland - 1999.

In London solo exhibitions have taken place at Mezzo, Soho House, Mango Room and the Standpoint Gallery in Hoxton between 1996 and 1998.

In Switzerland Tim has exhibited in Zug (Thema Art Gallery), St. Moritz (Kunsthalle) and Zurich (Galerie-Atelier Mo Zwiefelhofer) between 1996 and 1998.

Tim painted a giant 60 metre long street-mural in London as part of the Millennium celebrations.

In 2000 Tim was commissioned by Ritzenhoff Crystal AG in Germany to create designs for Beer, Schnapps and Champagne glasses and also an Espresso Coffee Cup. In spring 2001 Tim exhibited 20 new paintings in the gallery of MME Entertainment AG in Hamburg, and in Autumn 2001, 7 paintings at Poster Galerie, Grosse Bleichen, Hamburg and between November 2001 and March 2002 at Galerie Room 21 in Hamburg.
